Frequently Asked Questions
What is therapy?
I view therapy as a dynamic experience that can help a person heal from, and manage, the difficulties of life. This occurs through the safety and security of the therapeutic relationship, where a person is able to think and feel deeply, to explore their inner world and gain insight into their life experiences, which have inevitably influenced how they view and manage in the world. Everybody needs support at some point in their life. Therapy can be just that.
How does therapy work?
This is a nuanced question and quite difficult to answer in a paragraph. Put simply, therapy is a collaborative process of reflection and exploration, in which a client develops heightened self-awareness, and therefore can build the resources to enact meaningful change in their lives.
Who needs therapy?
There is often a misconception about the type of person that attends therapy. The reality is that anyone of any race, gender, religion or cultural background can benefit from attending therapy.
How does therapy help?
Put simply, therapy helps by providing a safe space for a person to think about themselves, their life and their relationships. This is with the aim of gaining understanding about their unconscious motivations and behaviour, to help provide them with more choice in how to respond to the stressors in life and how to live a more authentic and content existence.
Things to know
Each therapy sessions lasts 50 minutes which is known as the therapeutic hour.
Psychotherapy tends to be a longer term therapy, although it can be difficult to predict how many sessions someone will need. This will be discussed and considered throughout. When it has been agreed that therapy will come to an end, we will have a few ending sessions to consolidate and review the process.
Cancellation Policy
I have a 48 hour cancellation policy otherwise the full fee will be charged for the missed session. I do try and offer an alternative session in the same week if we can find a mutually agreed time.
Fees
Fees will be discussed and agreed upon in the initial, free telephone consultation.
